Bitcoin gives back its election rally as AI stocks slide
Thursday, November 5, 2026
What happened
Thursday undid Wednesday. Bitcoin fell about 6% to $75,700 after touching $75,568, and ether dropped more than 7% to about $2,247, erasing the bounce that followed the midterm elections (The Block). XRP and Solana were each down about 5.5% on the day (CoinDesk).
The push came from Wall Street. The Nasdaq closed down 5.5% and the S&P 500 down 4.3%, the worst session since April 2025, led by chip stocks. Nvidia lost about 9% (CoinDesk). Analysts linked the slide to worries that the midterm results could slow AI data-center building, plus disappointing AI growth figures and heavy investor leverage (CoinDesk).
Other stories traders watched:
- Leverage got flushed again. About $1.26 billion of leveraged crypto positions were liquidated, $1.12 billion of them bets on higher prices (CoinDesk).
- ETFs saw money leave. U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs had $430.2 million of net outflows on Thursday, after a small inflow on Wednesday (CoinDesk).
- Crypto stocks fell hard. Coinbase closed down 9.7%, and miners and Strategy also slid (The Block, The Block).
